Backtesting Visa ($V) Rolling 4s Long Term Options Strateg

 Long Term Visa ($V) (Rolling 4s) Play April 2017 – September 2020

Back again with another breakdown of some back testing I did on Visa ($V) with a LEAP option. LEAP options are 1-2 year plays using the Excel pricing sheet created by Mark Monroe to select the strike price.  This back test starts in April 2017.

I selected Visa because for this back test since I have been watching it recently. As we are going to a cashless society most transactions in the world are done with a debit/credit card. The biggest players in that space are Visa and Mastercard. So the companies are not going anywhere.

Check out my video commentary on Youtube:

Visa Rolling 4s Back Test Part 1- https://youtu.be/g8OyUKmttuU

Visa Rolling 4s Back Test Part 2 - https://youtu.be/8gfJV5zsglE

Setup:

Bought Visa when the it bounced up off a key support/EMA (typically 20ema or 50ema) or even breakout price actions.  Looking to invest roughly $5,000 each quarter/entry. Objective was to stay in a play for a year.

I did roll a few options into new contracts…that was interesting.

In the video you can see how it worked to roll the options and it shows the net credit that was taken in on the trade for the 24 contracts. This was pretty interesting because now you can see how in the future you could take a good amount of your profits and buy your next call. This allows you to deploy saved capital to a new trade on a different stock or ETF.

Summary:

Long term options in the case of Visa definitely still work with the Rolling 4s method. I noticed a few things about this back test:

a.     The run up was real nice twice during this timeframe (practically all of 2017 & 2019)

b.     Rolling an option is very convenient when you have substantial profits from a previous play

c.     Do your best to catch the breakout for the next wave of uptrend movement. This will maximize your profits

d.     Lastly, regardless of the plan of sticking to the script there are still factors that would have you exit a trade due to the market conditions

Backtesting XLK (Rolling 4s Strategy)

  Long Term XLK (Rolling 4s) Play   This is a breakdown of some back testing I did on playing XLK with a LEAP option. LEAP options are 1-2 year plays using the Excel pricing sheet created by Mark Monroe to select the strike price.    Setup: Bought the EFT when the it bounced up off a key support/EMA (typically 50) and a bounce up as the EFT was up trending.    Entries: 1.       March 8, 2019 Purchased XLK Call  – Stock @ $69.95  – Expiration Jan 15, 2021  – $77 Strike @ $4.48  – 10 Contracts  – Total investment $4,480 2.       June 17, 2019 Purchased XLK Call  – Stock @ $76.25 – Expiration Jan 15, 2021  – $86 Strike @ $3.90  – 10 Contracts  – Total investments $3,900 3.       September 16, 2019 Purchased XLK Call  – Stock @ $81.05  – Expiration Jan 21, 2022  – $91 Strike @ $6.25  – 10 Contracts  – Total investment $6,250 4.       December 31, 2019 Purchased XLK Call  – Stock @ $91.40  – Expiration Jan 21, 2022  – $105 Strike @ $4.48  – 10 Contracts  – Total investment $4,480 5.       M

Backtesting NVDA (Rolling 4s Long Term Options Strategy)

Long Term NVDA (Rolling 4s) Play September 2017 – September 2020   Back again with another breakdown of some back testing I did on playing NVDA with a LEAP option. LEAP options are 1-2 year plays using the Excel pricing sheet created by Mark Monroe to select the strike price.  This back test starts in September 2017.    This one was a bit tough for multiple reasons, but I have never followed NVDA so this is really organic going back to 2017. I tried to play this setup as if I was in real time regardless of what the price is now. And as you will see in the charts what the stock did would not have been beneficial for some plays to continue to hold.    Setup: Bought NVDA when the it bounced up off a key support/EMA (typically 20ema or 50ema) and a bounce up as the EFT was up trending.  Looking to invest roughly $10,000 or less each quarter. No rolling options…simply exiting and entering new trade.   Entries & Exits:   1.       Sept. 11, 2017 Purchased NVDA Call  Stock Price Option E
